Samantar begins with atheist Kumar Mahajan (Swapnil Joshi) getting into a grave accident. His friend Sharad takes him to meet a Swami, despite Kumar's disbelief in God. The Swami shocks Kumar by recounting details of his past that only he knew, piquing Kumar's interest.

Identical stranger

Sharad is irked that Kumar didn't share his past, as Kumar explains his misfortunes. The Swami then proves he had met a man named Sudarshan, whose palm lines and fate match Kumar's. The Swami refuses to reveal Kumar's future, angering him. Just then, Kumar gets a call about his son's accident and financial troubles.

Mishap

Kumar goes to Ghatkopar to learn more about Sudarshan, who left Mumbai 40 years ago after a fraud. Just then, Sharad tells Kumar he's been transferred to Kolhapur. Nima is upset but agrees to visit a fortune-teller with Kumar, though the teller has passed away.

Switch

Invited to a dinner party by his boss in Kolhapur, Kumar expresses his desire to stay in the mysterious Blue Moon Cottage he spotted from his window. Despite warnings from his house help Hanmya, Kumar's boss agrees. At the cottage, Kumar senses a presence and nearly falls off a cliff, as Hanmya reveals a similar incident happened there years ago.

Blue Moon Cottage

A man who claims to know about Sudarshan shows up at Blue Moon Cottage, revealing Sudarshan worked at Imperial Woods and he saved his life. The next day, Kumar finds a painting of a woman in the cottage, which Hanmya says belonged to Sudarshan, who had stayed there decades ago.

The finding

Traveling to Karjat, Kumar learns Sudarshan had an accident while working at Malabar Woods. He tracks down Ramchandra, who reveals Sudarshan owns a large bungalow in Chiplun. But before Ramchandra can share more, he is killed in an accident. Undeterred, Kumar decides to go to Chiplun, despite his wife Nima's attempts to stop him.

Sudarshan Chakrapani

Kumar finally meets Sudarshan, eager to get answers. Sudarshan offers him whiskey, and Kumar passes out after drinking it. Waking from a nightmare, Kumar finds Sudarshan missing, but he soon returns. Kumar asks if Sudarshan ever visited the Swami who said they had the same fate.

Past life crisis

Kumar and Sudarshan share the uncanny similarities in their lives and the matching wound on their foreheads. Sudarshan presents his diaries chronicling his past, telling Kumar their destinies are intertwined. He warns Kumar not to try accessing more information than he allows, or face the consequences of his supernatural powers.

The Diaries

On his way back, Kumar accidentally drops one of Sudarshan's diaries at the train station, missing his train. Frustrated, he returns home, hiding the diaries safely. His boss then unexpectedly calls him back to the office, leaving Kumar shocked. Returning to Panhala, Kumar begins reading the diaries, but is taken aback when his wife and son make a surprise visit.
